Accident: 12-month-old baby, Mother and 8 others die in Kano

A12-month-old child, her mother and eight others were killed in an automobile accident that occurred on Tuesday night in Takai. The accident happened along Kano-Kwari Road. Eyewitnesses told Daily Sun that the accident involved a Golf car and a heavy duty vehicle, saying the tragedy occurred when the two vehicles collided near Takai Bridge in Takai Local Government Area of Kano State.

The Golf car, it was gathered, was about overtaking another vehicle at a sharp bend when it crashed head-on into a trailer, which was coming from the opposite direction. The car immediately went up in flames. It was also reported that the fire from the Golf car spread to nearby vehicles, burning them and their occupants beyond recognition. A total of 10 passengers travelling in the ill-fated Golf car died in the crash.

The only survivor of the crash was the driver of the trailer, who, however, sustained serious burns and was rushed to Takai General Hospital. Confirming the tragedy, the Head of Operation, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Kano Command, Mallam Kabiru Nadabo, stated that, “10 died in the accident.” He linked the accident to “dangerous overtaking,” saying the impact of the crash triggered off the fire that burnt the occupants.
