The Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, has said that the centralisation of power and making it the sole priority of the Federal Government, the country suffer in terms of electricity generation.

The minister, who spoke in Omoku, Rivers State, on Friday, as he led a team to inspect the national integrated power project and the state turbine project, said counter-productive status of the former policy was the reason it was completely changed.

Maku described the policy as a wrong one, but assured that the country would witness greater power supply by December this year.

The minister said that as the government works to improve power supply, the country, according to him, witnesses marginal increase in electricity generation.

Maku faulted the approach taken by the military in tackling power challenge in the country and said the country would have progressed beyond its stage if the right steps had been taken.

He observed that improved synergy between Federal and state governments on power issues would, however, assist to improve the sector.
