Women's Day - Ogun appoints first female attorney-general

On a day observed worldwide as International Women’s Day, Governor Ibikunle Amosun of the western Nigerian state of Ogun has won plaudits for his government for appointing the first female justice commissioner and attorney-general and also the first female solicitor-general in the state, since its creation 1n 1976.

The new Justice Commissioner is Mrs Abimbola Ibironke Akeredolu who replaced Wemimo Ogunde (SAN) who resigned his
appointment last month.

Also sworn in by the governor was the new Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Patricia Funmilola
Oduniyi. Until her appointment Patricia was the Director of Public Prosecutions in the Ministry of Justice in the State.

She graduated from the then University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University in 1983.

At the inauguration ceremony held at the Governor’s office in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta Friday, Amosun enjoined the two ladies to see their appointments as a call to service.
