SHORTLY after the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to Borno State, the Joint Task Force has, in a latest operation in Maiduguri, killed 52 members of the Islamic sect, Jamâ’a Ahl al-sunnah li-da’wa wa al-jihâd, otherwise known as Boko Haram, in a shootout where the JTF also arrested  over 70 of the sect’s members.

Two JTF personnel were killed while three others were injured, as arms and ammunition were recovered.

JTF, in a statement signed by its spokesman, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, and made available to Sunday Tribune, said in the last 10 days, a total of over 52  sect members had been killed in exchange of fire while 70 were arrested.

Musa also revealed that in all the operations there was no civilian casualty.

The statement explained further that the operation on Friday between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m, about an hour after President Jonathan left, led to the recovery of three anti-aircraft guns, 10 rocket-propelled grenade tubes, three general purpose machine guns and 17 AK47 rifles.
