The FCT Area Council elections today witnessed a low turn out of voters as attendance at polling stations remain scanty. The election which started by 8.00 am Nigerian time with accreditation of eligible voters in the six Area Council of Federal Capital Territory namely: AMAC,Kwali, Bwari,Abaji,Gwagwalada  are still in progress as at the time of publishing this report.

An electoral officer  at Kwali Area Council who pleaded anonymity said that the total number of registered voters in his unit was 200 but stated only 30 people came for accreditation, and they have casted their votes.

The story was not different in Kubwa where few people were seen on the queue to cast their votes.

A voter who identified himself as Ahmed Saliu attributed the voters apathy to the loss of confidence in the government at all levels because of mismanagement, shady land deals, inept leadership style and decadence.

He maintained that the election was a farce which would not reflect the wishes of the people “I can tell you categorically that those few people that came out to vote are the people that have been tipped with money by the People Democratic Party (PDP).

There was no evidence of violence and ballot box snatching at the centers visited. Electoral officers were seen waiting patiently at various polling centers for voters to come and exercise their civic duties.

If The ruling party was expecting a rout it was   rudely shocked by the results from the FCT minister's polling unit in the Life Camp area. An Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)officer in the area told Saharareporters that the FCT minister Bala Mohammed's polling unit 0001 at Life Camp witnessed the lowest turnout of voters. However, the Peoples Democratic Party lost out to the Congress for progressive Change (CPC)in the final tally.

In the Life Camp unit,  there are 1953 registered voters with only 56 accredited voters for today's election. The results: CPC=32, PDP= 18, ACN=4 ANPP=2
