Jonathan fires all Nigerian Law School directors
« on: March 16, 2013, 10:10:57 PM »

he Nigerian government has fired the director general of the Nigerian Law School, Tahir Mamman, and his six deputies throwing the network of law schools into a mid session crisis.

There are six law schools in the country located in Lagos, Enugu, Kano, and recently Yenagoa – capital of president Goodluck Jonathan’s home state, Bayelsa – and Yola, capital of Adamawa state.

Deputy directors head the schools, and although the federal government offered no reasons for the sudden sack coming when the schools are in mid session, presidency sources in Abuja said it was based on the recommendation of the Nigeria’s Justice Minister, Mohammed Adoke. President Jonathan approved the sack late Thursday.

Mr. Mamman will keep his post till a replacement is announced for his job and those of his deputies. Unofficial sources in Mr. Adoke’s office said the recommendation was based on claims that Mr. Mamman had spent five years in office whereas he is expected to stay on a 4-year term contract. Like university vice chancellors, he can stay a maximum of two terms. Deputy directors however have no term to their contract.
