The deputy governor has been seen in public for a while.

Anxieties are growing in Ekiti State over the continued absence of the Deputy Governor, Funmilayo Olayinka, from official assignments. She has not been seen in the public for about five weeks.

On Tuesday, the usually chatty and argumentative world of Nigerian online community was in full din about the state of her health, but authoritative voices in the administration of the state told PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday that the deputy governor is on sick leave, battling with breast cancer.

No one wants to go on record, however, on the claim that the she has secretly resigned her position as the deputy governor of Ekiti.

Mrs. Olayinka, 52, who became the deputy governor of Ekiti State in October 2010, when she was sworn-in alongside the Governor, Kayode Fayemi, is a banker who holds a masters degree in public administration and a bachelor of business administration from Central State University, Edmond, Oklahoma.
