Heavy Rainfall destroys over 600 houses in Benue!!!

THE Thursday rain in Adoka community area of Otukpo local government of Benue state wreaked havoc, destroying over 600 houses and properties worth millions of naira.

Saturday Tribune learnt that the rain accompanied by heavy storm  destroyed residential houses, and public properties such as Adoka Community Secondary School, Methodist High School and the Catholic Church in the area.

An indigene of the area, the immediate past care taker chairman of the council, Mr Gabriel Olofu,  said  the effect of the rainstorm was devastating, stressing that the victims would require help from the various tiers of government as well as good spirited individuals to restore themselves back to normalcy.

Olofu further said that some  of the affected residents have started moving out of the debris occasioned by the storm to squat with relations and neighbours, regretting that the development portends negative output for the people who he said are predominant farmers.

The chairman of the local government, Dr Innocent Onuh, who also spoke to Saturday Tribune regretted the devastating effect of the rain storm and appealed to both the state and national  emergency agencies to come to the aid of the affected persons.

According to him, ‘I just visited the place today (Friday), and what I saw was very pathetic. we appeal to the state government and the relevant agencies both at the state and national levels to come to our aids’. http://tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/news/item/8515-rainstorm-destroys-600-houses
