Twitter Acquires We Are Hunted, Should Open New Marketing Doors For Artists

The music discovery service We Are Hunted has announced that it’s joining Twitter. The news hit almost at the same moment that American Idol host Ryan Seacrest tweeted about “playing with @twitter’s new music app.”

Together, those two items should open new marketing opportunities for artists to be found and connect with fans on Twitter.

In a follow-up Seacrest said that the Twitter music app “shows what artists are trending” and “also has up and coming artists.”

In its announcement, We Are Hunted only hints at what’s in store as it joins Twitter:

While we are shutting down wearehunted.com, we will continue to create services that will delight you, as part of the Twitter team.

There’s no question that Twitter and music go well together. Artists turn to Twitter first to connect with fans, and people share and discover new songs and albums every day. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on at Twitter.

Indeed, Twitter has become a marketing tool for musicians all around the world. Earlier this year, Twitter detailed the deep connection between its users and the music industry:

    “music is the second-most-discussed topic on Twitter in the U.S.”

With a music discovery service joining the fold and a music app on the way, look for numbers like those to increase as musicians of all size and popularity add Twitter into their marketing efforts, or increase the marketing they’re already doing.
