Chelsea v Man City: Who will win at Wembley?
« on: April 14, 2013, 01:51:44 PM »
While the incentive is obvious for both Chelsea and Manchester City in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final, the likely winner is much less so.

The prize is a place in the final against Wigan but which big spender wearing blue will be heading back down Wembley Way in search of silverware come May?

Why Chelsea will win
Chelsea's cup and their new Wembley love affair

There is only one word to describe Chelsea's grip on the FA Cup in recent years - incredible.

Before 1997, Chelsea had only won the trophy once in their 92-year history and been runners-up on three occasions. But in the last 17 seasons, they have reached the final seven times, with six victories.

Chelsea Stumble to Man City 1-2 as Man City enters FA Cup Final

Having watched Chelsea's defence of the FA Cup come to an end one game short of this season's final, Rafael Benitez complemented our semi-final opponents but also expressed regret over an important decision not given by the match officials.

Manchester City had the better of the first half at Wembley and had a goal to show for it, and they doubled their advantage very soon after the restart, but Chelsea were not beaten yet and Demba Ba scored another acrobatic FA Cup goal with 25 minutes to go.

However the match ended 2-1 and although there was plenty of talk about a challenge on David Luiz by Sergio Aguero after the ball had gone, Benitez preferred to concentrate on a penalty not awarded to Fernando Torres when he appeared to be impeded by already booked Vincent Kompany late in the game.

'It is clear we played against a very good team and their goal early in the second half was very disappointing because we wanted to reacted,' said Benitez.

'When Torres came onto the pitch we scored a goal quickly and the team had more determination and confidence and played much better when we had the ball, and we were on top of Man City until the end.

'I was disappointed we could not score another goal because we had one or two chances and also the penalty was not given which was clear, and could make a big difference. It could be a red card and a goal for us and it could change the game. The picture shows Torres's shirt up.
