Consumers demand N1.5 trillion for poor Service against MTN,GLO,ETISALAT,AIRTEL

Telecommunications subscribers under the aegis of Consumers Empowerment Organization of Nigeria (CEON) and the United Consumers Association of Nigeria (UCAN) have demanded the sum of N1.5 trillion from the four global system for mobile communications (GSM) operators as compensation for the poor quality of service being rendered.

They also returned a damning indictment on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for usurping the proceeds from the fines on the telcos instead of distributing them to subscribers directly affected by the worsening services of  the operators.

CEON and UCAN said that “NCC`s action as a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul” and that they have invoked section 8 (b) of the Consumer Protection Council Act No. 66 of 1992 and have commenced the process of civil action against the operators to press home their demand.

The consumer bodies are asking the operators to pay each subscriber  on their networks  N10, 000 for poor quality of service provisioning especially for dropped calls; break up during conversation; unconnected calls; poor connection; poor signal level; among others.

We all know that Achieving acceptable quality of service that will meet a minimum standard set by the regulator, has remained a thorny  from the outset of GSM revolution.
