THE Federal Government has approved the establishment of a military base in Ekiti State, as a means of beefing-up security in the state.

Governor Kayode Fayemi announced this in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, at a meeting with traditional rulers, security agencies and representatives of different sub-ethnic groups, as well as transport unions in the state.

The governor said he got a message “from the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika, informing him of the president’s approval of the establishment of a military base in the state.”

Governor Fayemi also announced on the occasion that as part of measures to beef up security in the state, his government would install surveillance cameras in strategic parts of the state.

According to the governor, the proposed camera, which operation would first begin in Ado-Ekiti, would help security agencies in tracking and curbing crime, adding that there was the need to beef up security in the state, in order to curb spill-over of crimes from neighbouring states.

Fayemi said men of the Nigerian Army would now have patrol points in all the boundary towns in the state, to prevent criminals from creeping in from neighbouring states. - Tribune
