OSUN State governor, Mr Rauf  Aregbesola, has charged the Federal Government to declare emergency on youth unemployment in Nigeria, expressing optimism that this would go a long way in tackling restiveness and insecurity in the country.

He underscored the crucial need for the government at the federal level to show more commitment and seriousness in ensuring creation of employment opportunities for the nation’s teeming youths.

Aregbesola, who gave the charge, on Monday, at a special programme to mark the graduation of the participants in the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme Technology, popularly known as O’YES-Tech, said the scheme was the flagship of his administration’s policy to rescue the unemployed youths in their large  numbers from the scourge of  unemployment.

The O’YES-Tech is a six-month intensive programme in ICT, primarily conceived as part of the exit strategy for our O’YES cadets, who decide to veer into that sector.

Essentially, it is designed to train 20,000 youths in four batches, with each comprising 5,000 trainees at a time.

The governor observed that by arming the youth with necessary skills in ICT, government had opened their eyes to an area of limitless possibilities, with the wherewithal to explore and exploit these possibilities.

Aregbesola contended that by the same token, “we are also preparing our state with the human infrastructure to be able to launch itself into an ICT centre-of-excellence in Nigeria  and with the probability of an ICT reputation that would spread beyond the shores of this country. Tribune
