AT least four people of the same family were feared dead in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Friday in an accident that occured along Akure-Owo expressway.

No fewer than three vehicles were involved in the accident as they rammed into one another along the road at about 12.30 in the afternoon.

The accident, which happened directly adjacent to Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), according to an eye witness, was caused by the carelessness of some officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who were on patrol along the road.

Speaking with newsmen over the incident, an eyewitness, who identified himself as Taiwo, said that the FRSC officials stopped the driver of the vehicle, a Toyota Corolla marked Lagos BBG 247 AU in the middle of the road to check his particulars.

It was in the process, according to him, that an oncoming trailer, which apparently lost control, rammed into the vehicle and ran over it
Following the development, some youths in the area mobilised and invaded the FRSC office along the road and vandalised it.

The FRSC officials who were on patrol were said to have fled from the scene when they noticed the mob approaching them.

The incident however led to traffic gridlock along the expressway as it affected the only route that links the southwest with the north in the area.

Reacting to the incident, the Head of Operations, FRSC, Ondo State Command, Mr. Sunday Ajayi, denied the allegation that the men of the command were responsible for the accident. http://tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/news/item/11608-family-of-4-die-in-auto-crash
