The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has called on relevant stakeholders in the state to collaborate with his administration to ensure universal access to good health in Lagos State through the monthly donation of N200 by Lagos residents to cater for the state’s health sector.

Speaking at the 2013 State Council on Health held at Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, he added that if this little amount of money could be donated as suggested, there would be no need for Nigerians spending huge sums of money on medical attention overseas again.

“We are looking at a situation where even the lowest income earners, somebody who roasts yam or fried plantain, can participate in the scheme. Is there anyone among this category who cannot afford N50 weekly?,” he said.

According to him, if just the 6 million people that voted in the 2011 general election could contribute N200 each, the state would have more than enough to cater for the health sector and all cases of people in search of fund for surgeries
