Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Joe Erico, is tipping Nigeria to be among the last four teams at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, and possibly make it to the final of the event in June.

Nigeria are in the same group with world champions, Spain, Uruguay and Tahiti, while former world champions and hosts, Brazil, are in the other group with Italy, Mexico, and Japan.

And while Spain coach, Vincente Del Bosque, believes the reigning African champions have all it takes to make it to the semi-finals, Erico, who is familiar with Brazilian football atmosphere, says all Nigeria need to do is focus their games to succeed.

“Brazil has a friendly atmosphere but if the Eagles get carried away with the friendliness, they can lose focus at the competition,” Erico says.

“It is not too much to expect Nigeria to be in the semi-finals and even reach the final; it’s a matter of mindset. All they have to do is take each game as it comes and win at least two games to be in the semis.

“This does not mean they will find their opponents easy to play. Like Nigeria, they are also champions of their respective continents.“I’ll just advise the team to learn all they can with the Mexico friendly on May 31. It will say a lot on how prepared the Super Eagles are, especially now that some key players are missing in the squad.”
