Fulani herdsmen strike again, kill two and kidnap others in Benue

Two persons were feared dead and others kidnapped during the week in a renewed attack launched by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Gever community of Northbank area, Makurdi local government area of Benue state.

The incident happened at about 5 am when some heavily armed men, about eighteen in number invaded the village, shooting sporadically.

Mr. Nyikyagh Abahia, market master of Northbank commercial market who was shot two times at the back, survived the attack.

He disclosed that no house was burnt but the attackers came to the village and opened fire on residents of the community upon which two stray bullets hit him at the back and on his leg.

According to Abahia, they (villagers) were overpowered by the suspected herdsmen who were armed with dangerous weapons, including guns and live ammunition. He added that the attackers quickly shot and killed two members of his community while some of them fled for safety.

It was gathered that the attacked market master had quickly informed the member representing Makurdi North in the state Assembly, Mr. Avine Agbum, who had instantly briefed the commander at the 72 battalion, Northbank.

Men of the military were reportedly deployed to the area to calm the situation.

The police public relations officer,PPRO, DSP Daniel Ezeala, could not be reached for confirmation even as numerous calls to his mobile phone were not answered.
