[Donate your blood on the Go] Lagos Introduces blood collection centres

Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee, LSBTC, Dr. Modupe Olaiya, has said the introduction of blood collection centres and donor mobile clinic in various parts of the state would stamp out blood merchants and promote voluntary donation.

Executive Secretary of the committee, Dr. Modupe Olaiya, who spoke during a blood donor drive organised in collaboration with New Insight Baptists Church, Ogudu, to mark 2013 Annual Youths Day, said absent of such facilities had slowed down efforts at increasing voluntary blood donors and meeting the blood needs of the people.

Olaiya noted that with the establishment of blood collection centres and a blood mobile, (mobile blood clinic) people could easily walk in to donate blood voluntarily.

Her words: “The advantage of having centres is that you don’t have to be in a group before you donate blood. People can wake up on their own and book an appointment”. - Vanguard
