My wife receives midnight calls, has condoms in her bags
« on: July 06, 2013, 10:41:50 AM »

A Lagos housewife, Temitope Ojuolape, has pleaded with the Agege Customary Court to dissolve her union with her husband, Kayode Ojuolape.

The couple has lived together for 11 years and their union is blessed with three children.

Temitope told the court that her husband was troublesome and jealous.

She said he always accused her of wearing trousers and also beat her anytime he felt she was receiving men's call.

She also accused her husband's family of joining in assaulting her at any given opportunity.

"My husband and his family beat me, especially my husband's elder sister; I am fed up," she said.

According to her, since she started giving birth, her husband's family's attitude changed towards her as they repeatedly accused her of adultery.

Ojuolape, an auditor with the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Mile 2 branch, however, denied all that his wife had told the court.

He said despite Temitope's attitude towards him and his family, he was not ready to divorce her because of their children.

He told the court that in 2005, there was a disagreement between them because of the midnight calls she was receiving, which he had cautioned her over several times.

He also said that she was not preparing food for him and the children and that she always wore revealing dresses.

He added that his wife used bleaching cream to make herself attractive to other men.

"My wife is never satisfied with anything I offer her; she always looks for an alternative outside. She has a lot of condoms in her bags and also receives different calls at midnight.

"Despite her waywardness, I have never beaten her once," he said.

The court president, Mr. Emmanuel Shokunle, told the wife to be patient and consider the future of her children before taking any decision.

He ordered both parties to bring their children along on the next adjourned date of July 25, 2013.
