Rooney left ‘angry and confused’ by Moyes’ comments

Wayne Rooney’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain, after it emerged that the striker was not happy with David Moyes’ comments.

The new United boss had said: “Overall, my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we had an injury to Robin van Persie we are going to need him. I want as many options as possible.”

Rooney has been at Old Trafford for nine years and over the past season been left disillusioned by his bit-part role in the team, thanks to injuries and fitness problems. However, it became worse for him last season, as Robin van Persie arrived from Arsenal and became the main man.

The new executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, also insisted that there were no plans to open talks with the England international, concerning a contract extension.

Woodward said: “There are no contract renewals that are being discussed. I am not sitting down with any player on an extension and there is no trigger date in the diary. Would we be afraid to run a contract down? Of course not.”

The new developments will alert Jose Mourinho, who openly stated that he likes the striker’s fast and direct style.

Wayne Rooney is not for sale, insist Manchester United

In case anybody had not quite got the message yet, a succession of well prepared former Manchester United players lined up in Sydney yesterday to firmly reiterate the English champions would not be selling Wayne Rooney.

United's Premier League rivals Chelsea said on Wednesday they had been rebuffed after making a cash bid for the unsettled England striker, who returned home early from the Asia-Pacific tour to have treatment on a hamstring injury.

Manager David Moyes avoided the question altogether in a scripted Q&A at a lunch in the city and it was left to former players Bryan Robson, Denis Irwin and Dwight Yorke - dressed in club blazers and ties - to trot out the party line.

"David Moyes has said Wayne Rooney isn't for sale and as far as we're concerned that's the end of it," former England and United captain Robson said.

"I don't think its been a disruption to the squad, they're getting on with training," he added. http://www.scmp.com/sport/soccer/article/1285533/wayne-rooney-not-sale-insist-manchester-united
