« on: July 23, 2013, 07:35:26 am »

Six persons were killed on Monday as a commercial Mazda bus veered off the road to hit a stationery trailer on the Ibadan end of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The 14-passanger bus with registration number Oyo XE 675 LUY lost control around RATCON quarry company and rammed into a Mack truck with registration number Lagos XX 455 GGE, parked by the roadside.

Confirming the incident, the Assistant Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Oluyole Unit 1, Sanya Adeoye, said his officers along with state rescue officials rushed to the scene shortly after it happened.

He said some of the victims were rescued while the corpses of the dead were taken to the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue, Ring Road, Ibadan.

Mr. Adeoye disclosed that they could not ascertain the cause of the crash yet, but added that the bus probably developed some mechanical fault which led to the accident.

“In all, 14 passengers were involved, six died – four male and two female. Their corpses have been deposited at the Adeoyo morgue. The injured victims are now receiving treatment at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan. Also, N64, 210 and five Euros (N1, 000) was recovered from the victims,” he said.
