The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its special National Convention Planning Committee were on friday served with certified copies of the order of an Abuja High Court which restrained the party from proceeding with its mini-national convention slated for August 31.

A source at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja told the the Saturday Tribune that following this development, the Alhaji Bamanga Tukur led NWC hurriedly convened and emergency meeting of the body for a way forward.

Though no official statement was issued at the end of the meeting, it was gathered that it was resolved that its legal team was mandated to study the court order and advise on what action to be taken while it was always resolved the legal team should also proceed to the appeal court on Monday to vacate the order to enable the Professor Jerry Gana-led committee to continue with its assignment as planned.

“I can confirm to you that the leadership of the party has been served with the Court order and the NWC is handling the matter carefully, as a law abiding Party,I think the Party will be approaching the Court of Appeal on Monday to vacate the Order. Since the party had been served,we have to obey the order, that had been our practice in the past, there is no cause for alarm”,our source explained.

When contacted, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the Party,Barrister Tony Okeke confirmed that the party had received a copy of the order and had referred to its legal team to study for further action. - Tribune
