Man beats wife to death over dead snake in Benin

Residents of Uzebba-Iuleha, Owan-West Local Government Area, Edo State are yet to recover from the shock of how a middle-age man, Godwin Idon, allegedly beat his wife, Mrs Marvis Idon to death over a killed snake inside their home.

It was gathered that fight broke out between the couple after one of their sons had reportedly killed a snake in their living room.

Idon became enraged by the action, which he described as a taboo in the community.

DailyPost learnt that after a week of squabble, the wife in company of her mother-in-law decided to seek the intervention of a native doctor to know the implication of the son’s action, however, the husband was not happy with her decision.

The husband accused her of foul play and thus hit the wife on the head with a plank during a fracas before the woman collapsed and gave up the ghost.

The remains of the deceased, who died on the spot, had since been deposited in a morgue in Sabongidda-Ora, headquarters of the council.

The Police Area Commander, Mr David Jimwang, who confirmed the incident said the suspect has been arrested and transferred to the State Police Command, Benin for further investigation. http://dailypost.com.ng/2013/07/30/man-beats-wife-to-death-over-dead-snake-in-benin/
