I’m Not Ohakim’s Mistress – Businesswoman, Igwegbe Disowns Former Imo Governor

A businesswoman, Miss Chinyere Amuchienwa Igwegbe, has denied being an estranged mistress of former Imo State governor, Ikedi Ohakim.

Igwegbe had in a petition to the Inspector-General of Police accused Ohakim of conspiracy, criminal intimidation, defamation of character, attempted kidnapping and threat to life as well as accepting payment of a sum of N500million for the purchase of a land in Lagos.

She also accused the former governor and one Chinedu Okpareke of harassment and threatening to release her nude photos.

The police, however, claimed that these allegations could not be proved and aimed at blackmailing her victims – Ohakim and Okpareke.

She was then arrested at the premises of the Federal High Court, Abuja and detained her for days over the matter.

She was later taken to court where she pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.

Narrating how she met the former governor, Igwegbe said, “What’s the meaning of mistress? I feel unhappy each time I hear that word. What was he doing before he became a governor? Was he voted for? Why are we deceiving ourselves when we all know what he does for a living? Am I the first? Am I the second? Am I the third? I’m fighting for my case and I want justice.

“I’m not his mistress; people should check their dictionary and find the meaning of mistress. It’s an insult on my own part. I don’t have any relationship with him, I met him in my village in somebody’s house they call Obioma. We have to clear all these accusations and I want to use your medium to state it categorically that anybody that refers to me as Ohakim’s mistress, the person will meet me in court and tell me the meaning of mistress.”
