BARELY 24 hours after the Department of State Security Service (DSS) warned members of the public against making inflammatory and reckless statements ahead of the 2015 general elections, the operatives of the service on Friday laid siege to the Asokoro, Abuja residence of the Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, with a mission to effect his arrest.

But Saturday Tribune gathered that the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, who was out of the premises when the operatives arrived, had reportedly gone into hiding.

An informed source said el-Rufai had gone to the school to pick his children when the security operatives arrived his residence to effect his arrest, and a member of his immediate family immediately alerted him of the development and the need for him to stay away.

The SSS had earlier invited the former minister in a manner that would not cause any uproar, to clarify certain issues concerning some of his activities in recent time, especially statements credited to him as regards the 2015 – which he allegedly refused to honour, citing a pending, court case he has with the Service.

Efforts to speak with the spokesperson of the service, Marylin Ogar, were unsuccessful, but a top officer of the service confirmed the development, saying that the invitation extended to el-Rufai was a normal thing.

Meanwhile, the APC spokesman, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Friday said the statement by el-Rufai on the 2015 general elections did not warrant the visit of the operatives to his residence to arrest him.

In a statement, Mohammed accused the SSS of trying to arrest el-Rufai for merely exercising his fundamental rights.

Is this a sniper list action? Well if talking about an election gets SSS into your homes....you better be careful if you are not El-Rufai?
