Joint patrol team kills Nasarawa youths

The Police Commissioner in Nasarawa State , Mr Abayomi Akeremale, on Sunday confirmed the killing of two persons by the joint patrol team, called “Operation Mainasara” at TudunAmba in Lafia Local Government Area of the state.

The commissioner told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that crisis started when the joint patrol team, comprising army and police personnel mounted a road block along Doma road , a few kilometers from Lafia.

Akeremale said that they were stopping all vehicles for a stop- and-search purpose so as to enable them to fish out perpetrators of crisis in the state.

“The patrol team arrested 20 young persons who were allegedly in possession of weapons, charms, guns, cutlasses and ammunition.”

“On their way to the nearby station for further investigation, some unidentified youths mounted another road block, saying members of the joint patrol team would not pass with the suspects”, he lamented.

The commissioner explained that it was in the course of the argument that the youths wounded one soldier, cut off one of his leg and hand.

According to him, the security operative in self defence shot two of the youths.
