Conor Gallagher, the 21-year old Chelsea starlet, currently on loan at Crystal Palace, has made an outstanding start to the season.

Two assists and three goals in 10 appearances means this Eagle is flying high.

The midfielder recently put on his best display yet as he netted and created another in the stunning 2-0 victory against title contenders, Manchester City.

And with the continuous impressive run, there is no doubt Gallagher will receive an England call up for the last stage of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Here are five things you may not know about this rising star. 

FOOTBALL RUNS IN THE FAMILY

Conor Gallagher’s older brothers, Daniel and Jordan are also footballers who played at non-League level. 

The Gallagher brothers seem to have a close-knit bond as Conor revealed his family cried tears of joy when he scored his first goal at Charlton Athletic against Stoke in a 3-1 win.

He explained: “That was such an amazing feeling when I scored my first goal, it was just amazing. It was the best feeling I’ve had in my career and I had my parents and my brothers at the game.

“When it went in, they started crying, it’s a feeling you just can’t describe.”

WEST LONDON IS WHERE THE HEART IS

Born in Epsom, Gallagher attended Howard of Effingham School, the west side of London has always been home for Gallagher.

Gallagher’s family are Chelsea fans and when he was growing up, he lived a 10-minute drive from their training ground in Cobham. 

Gallagher’s girlfriend Aine May recently announced the pair have moved into their new home in the West side with their new dog, Freddy.

The couple have been together for two years and Gallagher has been sharing the love all over his Instagram page. Adorable!

FAMILY HERITAGE

Although Gallagher has represented the Young Lions on the international stage, his family heritage means he could also represent Scotland or the Republic of Ireland at senior level in the future. 

He represented England at Under 17, Under 18, Under 19 and Under 20 levels, winning the 2018 FIFA Under 17 World Cup. 

Gallagher was then selected for the England U21 squad in 2019 as a substitute during a 2-2 draw against Slovenia in Maribor.

THE FIRST POST

Conor Gallagher currently has 194k Instagram followers with 173 posts and of course a harmless stalk and scroll though his Instagram is a given. 

Gallagher’s first ever Instagram post is from 19 February 2017, a video of him scoring a goal for Chelsea’s Under 18 beating Brighton a whopping 13-0! 

Fast forward four years, the 21-year old’s recent post is of his spectacular win over Manchester City – what an achievement!

IMPRESSING THE INDUSTRY

Many MANY footballing professionals have had their say on how well Gallagher is performing including Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

Wright said: “He’s [Gallagher] is one of those players when I watch him, he’s never less than seven out of 10.

“He is constantly good in every game I’ve seen him play.”

Former Blackburn Rovers ace Keith Andrews said he sees similarities between Gallagher and Chelsea icon Frank Lampard.

Andrews said: “Box-to-box, real energy, likes to get stuck in, wins the ball back but then he breaks so quickly, those are the components to his game similar to Frank Lampard.”

And last but not least, Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira is full of praise for his midfielder.

Vieira revealed: “Working with Conor, it is a joy really because he is a player who wants to fill his potential and he’s bringing this energy to the team.

“He comes in every morning with a big smile on his face and is leaving the training ground smiling.

“We are really glad that he decided to come to our football club and I think we had the tools to attract him to our football club and I believe that he made the right decision.”
