Reported Liverpool transfer target Sander Berge has been given a rave review by Tony Cascarino.

The Reds are on the hunt for a new midfielder with their forces depleted by injuries.

After initially believing he could work his way through a tough spell with what he has, Jurgen Klopp has been forced to backtrack on previous comments and is looking for a new signing.

In Liverpool’s shock loss to rivals Manchester United, James Milner, Jordan Henderson, and Harvey Elliott struggled to get to grips with the game.

Fabinho was a half-time substitute but didn’t make much of an impression either.

And with Thiago, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, and Naby Keita all absent through injury, a dip into the transfer market seems sensible, despite rumours Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham is the long-term fix.

Sheffield United star Berge is one name the club have been linked with in recent days, with Klopp thought to have been interested in the player before he arrived in England in 2019 and was playing for Genk.

And Cascarino, who knows Chris Wilder, the Blades boss who signed him, is a fan of the midfielder.

“A big lad with a great drive,” he told the Weekend Sports Breakfast.

“I watched him last night [against Luton] and I’ve seen quite a lot of him because Chris Wilder brought him to Sheffield United and he spoke very highly of him as a footballer.

“So gifted, a great turn of pace, and sees things.

“It would be a different type of signing because going from the Championship to one of the top teams in the Premier League.

“He’s a very talented boy.”
