Harry Redknapp has called on Jose Mourinho to play Dele Alli amid Tottenham’s poor run of form.

Spurs were beaten 1-0 by struggling Brighton on Sunday to leave them with just two wins from their last nine Premier League outings.

Alli has played 164 minutes of top-flight football this season with Mourinho largely restricting him to cup appearances.

The England midfielder had been linked with a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain, who are managed by his former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, however, French journalist Julien Laurens claims the deal has fallen through.

He told talkSPORT: “From the beginning, Spurs said to PSG, ‘okay, this might be possible, but we need a replacement’.

“There are still a lot of games to play for Spurs in the league, Europe, the FA Cup.

“In Paris, it was only a loan, they didn’t really want to put an option to buy. Again, for Spurs, the idea was to put a buyout clause there.

“Although Dele Alli clearly agreed terms with PSG a long time ago, it was far from done between the two clubs for a long time now.”

Ex-Tottenham manager Redknapp insists Alli was once ‘one of the best players in the country’ and has urged Mourinho to get him on side.

He told Monday’s talkSPORT Breakfast: “With Dele Alli, why not get him back on board? Sort him out, that’s your job. Get him playing again. What’s his problem?

“The kid was one of the best players in the country two years ago. You’ve got to find a way. He’s still only a young boy. Get him playing again.

“Don’t just discard people, get them playing. That’s your job.

“Make them feel important, make them feel like they’ve got something to offer, get them back to where they were.”
