The 39-year-old led Sporting to the Portuguese top flight title in 2021 and is on track to do so again this season as they sit top of the table.

Amorim’s success has therefore made him a contender for the soon-to-be vacant job at Liverpool, and Agbonlahor has had first-hand experience of his commitment to coaching.

Speaking to Darren Bent on talkSPORT Drive, the former Aston Villa star revealed how he and Amorim were both previously on the same coaching course and suggested the Portuguese would have what it takes to be Liverpool manager.

“Funnily enough, I did my coaching badges with Ruben, we did the fast track, Northern Ireland, Belfast course,” said Agbonlahor.

“He was one that was like, he was on it mate. Some people might have had a little laugh and joke on the course and stuff, he was on it.

“Concentrating in every meeting, all the theory part, when you did the coaching stuff on the pitch you could tell that he was on it.

“I’m sure that was like five years ago, he’s 39 now so he’s quite a young manager but I don’t see why not [he could become Liverpool manager], he’s doing a great job at Sporting, isn’t he?”

Amorim is a leading contender for the Liverpool job German national team boss Julian Nagelsmann also a rumoured name.

Xabi Alonso was the favourite ever since Klopp announced he was to leave, but the former Red committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen.

Despite the links with such a high profile job, Amorim recently said he has felt ‘upset’ about the speculation over a move to Liverpool.

Whoever is next to takeover, whether it’s Amorim, Nagelsmann or another option, they will have big shoes to fill at Anfield.

Klopp will leave the club after guiding them to success in every major competition, including the Premier League and Champions League.

The German is regarded as a Reds legend and leaves a legacy that will be hard to beat as the club prepare for their next era.
