Barcelona and Spain defender Gerard Pique and Colombian popstar Shakira have announced they have separated after 11 years together.
It’s claimed the football has left their family home with both parties keen to make their two children the top priority during the unsettling time.
The Barcelona star first met the global pop sensation in 2010 while filming the music video for Shakira’s hit ‘Waka Waka [This Time for Africa] – the soundtrack to the World Cup in South Africa.
In a statement released by Shakira’s communication agency on Saturday, the Colombian singer said: “We regret to confirm that we are parting ways.
“For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy.
“Thank you for your understanding.”
The statement confirms the end of what will undoubtedly be remembered as one of football’s famous relationships, comparable with ‘Posh and Becks’, Victoria and David Beckham.
Of course such a high-profile breakup will be hard-hitting for Pique after a turbulent year both on and off the pitch.

With Barcelona facing a huge financial struggle over the last 12 months, the 35-year-old opted to take a huge pay cut in order to aid the club in securing their long-term economic future.
It was also a year of consolidation on the pitch as Barcelona fell to second spot in LaLiga, while being dumped out of the Champions League in the group stage.
