Hugo Lloris’ injury came as a huge shock for Tottenham fans and even Glenn Hoddle couldn’t believe it.

The Spurs goalkeeper was ruled out for six to eight weeks with a knee injury in the 1-0 win over Man City.

This means he will miss key games for the north London club, including the upcoming Champions League clashes with AC Milan, with Tuesday’s first leg live on talkSPORT.

talkSPORT happened to be speaking to the Tottenham legend, who played 490 games for the club, when the news broke late last week.

His reaction summed up how ever fan was feeling, just as the club was looking to build momentum after that win.

“Wow! That’s obviously going to be a huge blow for Spurs,” he told talkSPORT.com.

“Well it is a surprise and it is a blow.

“It’s a blow. Listen Lloris hasn’t been at his top level for some time now for, if I’m being brutally honest, but at this moment going into Champions League football his vast experience would be invaluable in the squad.

“That is a massive blow for top and it really is whether [Fraser] Forster can go and be consistent, I think he’s a goalie that could come in for two or three games and do really well.

“It’s it’s whether he now can face that consistency of playing for that length of time in very, very big games back-to-back so let’s hope he can.”

Forster is that man who now has to step up to fill the void left by the World Cup winner’s enforced absence.

He is by no means a rookie, though, having played in the Champions League for Celtic against Barcelona, though let in four in the recent defeat to Leicester City.

Hoddle has faith that Forster can step up for the inconsistent Lloris

“It’s a lot of pressure now on him [Forster],” Hoddle added. “He [Forster] has got a lot of experience under his belt, there’s no doubt about it, it’s not like we’re relying now on a youngster that they fancy for the future and you now have to throw him in.

“Lloris, recently, hasn’t been playing his very, very best. So you know, it’s now an opportunity for somebody else to come in and the frost has got an opportunity here to really be a bit of a hero this season if he comes in and does really well.

“So I’m shocked and surprised about the injury, but a little bit a bit of comfort there because he’s not a kid, he’s got experience behind him.

“It’s not as bad as it might have been.”
