Harry Kane looks like he is trapped in a bad relationship at Tottenham and may need to force a January exit, according to former Premier League star Gabby Agbonlahor.

The Aston Villa legend also believes Spurs should consider dropping their underperforming striker for teenage forward Dane Scarlett right now.

After a dramatic transfer saga, Kane has returned to Premier League action with Spurs and contributed nothing in three full matches.

The last two have resulted in 3-0 defeats to Crystal Palace and Chelsea, with Kane spending more time in the centre-circle than the opponents’ box.

It was no secret the 28-year-old wanted to join Manchester City last month, before being priced out of a move by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

And Agbonlahor suggests the England captain may have to start thinking about the January transfer window already.

“I can’t help but feel sorry for him,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT. “You know when you’re in a bad relationship and you want to get out, but you’re trapped?

“Kane looks like that. He looks like he just wants to get out of Spurs but he’s trapped.

“He just looks upset. His body language in the second-half said, ‘Ugh, I’ve got to play with these guys again, look at the goals they’re conceding, I can’t do another season with these guys’.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if he needs to kick up a fuss now to get out in January. His value will go down a lot by the end of the season.”

Kane looks set for a break from the firing line when Spurs travel to Wolves in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The striker could be replaced by 17-year-old wonderkid Scarlett, who has been part of the first team in recent weeks.

And Agbonlahor suggests Nuno Espirito Santo should consider using Scarlett in the Premier League if Kane continues to underperform.

He added: “Spurs maybe should even take Kane out the team.

“If you’re a stronger manager, he doesn’t look happy, he’s not trying his hardest, he’s not playing for the team, get him out.

“Maybe put the young lad Scarlett in, I’ve heard a lot of good things about him.”
