Marcus Rashford has been told to ignore the backlash to his trip to New York by Jamie O’Hara and Gabriel Agbonlahor.

The two talkSPORT hosts were in full agreement for once when they debated whether or not the Manchester United star should have stayed at home.

Rashford pulled out of international duty with England this week after suffering an injury last week against Fulham in the FA Cup.

But not everyone was impressed with his decision to jet off to the United States days later as the Three Lions took on Italy.

However, Agbonlahor and O’Hara have stuck up for the 25-year-old and told him to enjoy his short break ahead of the latter part of the season.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor said: “He can go to the moon, for all I care.

“He’s played 44 games all season, if he can have a break then why not?”

O’Hara replied: “I can’t believe people are trying to dig him out [for having a break].

“If he is not fit to play now for England, you can’t expect him to sit indoors and do nothing, sit there and watch England.

“He wants to get away, have a break. He’s been playing every single week.

“They’ve been playing every three and a half days, Manchester United.”

Agbonlahor added: “This is a chance, as well, for the player to have a little break.

“It is going to be a tough ending to the season, a lot of games. Let him go and have a break.”

Meanwhile, England boss Gareth Southgate has had his say on the matter, whose side will take on Ukraine on Sunday.

The Three Lions coach hinted at a degree of frustration after admitting that could not miss Rashford in his squad – because he is not available enough.

“Well the feeling was he was playing really well, but we haven’t often had him,” he said.

“So, in terms of a loss, when you haven’t had him that often then it’s different to being a loss. But without a doubt he was in good form. We were looking forward to seeing him.”
