Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski and Kevin de Bruyne are some of the footballers that come to mind.

Messi had been Guardiola’s most used player with 219 appearances under him, until Sterling’s late cameo in Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Brighton.

The England forward played for the 220th time under the Man City boss when he replaced Phil Foden in the 82nd minute.

Despite the impressive landmark, Sterling might want to forget his latest appearance as he blazed over an injury-time penalty.

Guardiola has rotated the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva and Foden over the years, but Sterling is rarely left out of the starting XI.

The former Liverpool star enjoyed his best ever scoring season last term with 29 goals in all competitions.

However, he has managed to find the net just twice in his last 15 appearances this season.
