Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo’s sons could continue their father’s legacy at Manchester United as they are both set to be teammates in the club’s academy.

Following Ronaldo’s sensational return to Old Trafford, his son will continue his development at the club’s youth ranks alongside Kai Rooney, 11.

Having began his career at Juventus’ academy in 2018, Cristiano Jr will continue his progression in Manchester alongside Kai for the current season.

Rooney’s son began his career just one year before young Ronaldo and he is already showing signs that he could become as prolific as his father by scoring a hat-trick against Stoke City.

Ronaldo and Rooney are both legends at the club having spent several seasons terrorising defences and winning plenty of trophies.

In total they played 206 times together across five years winning the Premier League three times and the Champions League once and he is delighted to see his former teammate back at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese superstar’s return has both shocked football supporters across the world and delighted United fans.

Rooney, now Derby manager, even gave his thoughts on the move: “Cristiano is still one of the best players in the world and has won titles everywhere he’s been so he’s going to be huge,” he said.

“He still wants to be the best and I’m sure he will have a big impact on them this season.

“Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] will certainly know that he’s in a position now where he needs to start winning these big titles with the players that he’s brought in.

“For their development, to get to the next step now is to start winning titles.”

Ronaldo is in line to make his debut after the international break as Manchester United take on Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
