Brighton dominated but failed to make their relentless chances count as they fought out a goalless stalemate with Leeds.

Just like Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had earlier in the day, Neal Maupay spurned with his own a miss of the season contender in the first half which could have sent the Seagulls on their way to victory.

But lacklustre Leeds proved too resolute in the end and the shares were ultimately spoiled on the south coast.

Brighton began the match in style and almost took the lead after just four minutes as Jakub Moder fired home from Tariq Lamptey’s excellent cross.

Neal Maupay, drafted in from the cold after spell on the substiutes bench, then fluffed a glorious chance to put the Seagulls ahead as he fired over the bar from point blank range.

Leandro Trossard rattled the posts with 20 minutes on the clock as the hosts still somehow evaded the lead despite their relentless pressure.

Lamptey was causing carnage for Leeds throughout the first half and almost laid off Maupay to score again with th Frenchman tapping his effort wide of the post in what was another big miss.

Nevertheless, the game somehow went into half-time all square despite the hosts’ dominance.

Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was finally pressed into action when Stuart Dallas fired a fierce shot his way for Leeds’ first shot on target of the match.

But Leeds managed to control Brighton’s pressure more easily in the second-half and even begun to wonder whether they could snatch a winner themselves, with substitute Tyler Roberts proving to be a handful when coming on for the visitors.

Sanchez had to get down low to prevent the substitute from giving Leeds a shock snatch and grab victory when he parried away his shot with ten minutes remaining.

Solly March almost stole the points for Brighton at the death as the substitute’s tame effort fumbled into the gracious arms of Illan Meslier.
