New Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has told talkSPORT he will do ‘the craziest things’ owners have ever done in the history of football as he seeks to put his own stamp on a club he has ‘fallen in love’ with.

The Turkish businessman and TV producer saw his purchase of the Tigers finally completed in January after the Yorkshire club captured his interest six months ago.

Speaking to White and Jordan on Friday morning, the new Tigers chief explained exactly why he saw Hull City as the perfect club to invest in – revealing it was their iconic kit colours that first caught his eye.

“There are so many reasons,” Ilicali said.

“There was an option to buy Hull City six months ago, I came to see the city. I wanted to see what kind of city it was because I didn’t know much about it, but I was loving the club because of their colours [of their strip]. Their colour was really nice.

“I fell in love with everything, the people, they are so warm, so kind, nice people. I like the stadium, I like the atmosphere. My sixth sense said, ‘This is the place you will be happy’. So, after I spent two days in the city, I decided to go for the purchase.”

Ilicali immediately exerted his new influence at the club by sacking manager Grant McCann and replacing him with Georgian coach Shota Arveladze – a decision that was met by a whole range of reactions.

However, when asked by Simon Jordan and Martin Keown for his reasoning for sacking the boss that led Hull to promotion last season, the supremo was clear that ,whilst he admires McCann, the decision had been made months ago.

“The most important and the centre of guiding my team is the head coach,” he explained.

“I already made a deal with him [Arveladze] six months ago because I want to play the game in my style, so this coach has the spirit of what I like about football, very good relations, very intelligent.

“This is nothing to do with Mr McCann. I can say that he’s a very nice guy, successful, very good spirit, I like the things he did, but I want to walk on that road with somebody I believe in and that was the only reason.”

On the topic of McCann, he continued: “It’s not me to wait for the unsuccess of my coach to sack him. That’s not me. I have a decision in my mind, now he won two games, if you ask me it was the better moment for the two of us, now he’s going with good success.

“I hate when people are down and sad, now he has success from the last two games… so it will be very useful for him for the future, first to find new clubs very easily and secondly he will always have the door in future for this club to come back.”

And the Turkish businessman intends to bring much more to the club than just a new first team manager, insisting he will not be taking a backseat style approach to running the club.

“I will not be that kind of owner because nobody can be more involved than me in football, I always say I’m a football maniac…”, Ilicali said.

“My system is being one family. I’m going to make a big family in Hull City, and also all the Hull people will be involved in it.

“I cannot guarantee the future because with sports we cannot know the future, you cannot guess the scores, but I can guarantee you’re going to see the most craziest things owners have done in the history of football.

“We’re going to be a family, the strongest family in football.”

However despite his big plans for his new investment, the Tigers owner does have his feet firmly on the ground when it comes to realistic expectations on the pitch and regaining Premier League status.

He added: “Actually, I would never promise something like that because I’m not a God.

“All I can promise is we’re going to be a good team, a strong team, one of the candidates to go to promotion and it’s going to be a team which is going to make everyone enjoy football.”
