Rangers will be looking to book their place in the next round of the Europa League when they take on Royal Antwerp tonight.

They’ve got a big advantage ahead of hosting Antwerp this evening but will know it won’t be easy getting the job done.

Steven Gerrard’s men have been superb this season domestically and are eager to enjoy a European run too.

A professional performance at home tonight should be enough to secure their spot in Friday’s last-16 draw.

Rangers v Antwerp: Team news

Ryan Jack will sit out tonight but Steven Gerrard is confident the Scotland midfielder will only be sidelined for a fortnight.

Jack suffered a recurrence of his old calf problems as he limped off early against Dundee United on Sunday, but scans have shown there is no tear to the muscle.

James Tavernier and Kemar Roofe are expected to be back in around three weeks, while Nathan Patterson, Calvin Bassey and Bongani Zungu have rejoined Gerrard’s squad after being forced to quarantine having breached Covid-19 rules.

Jermain Defoe is not in Gers’ European squad, while long-term knee-injury victim Nikola Katic is still missing.

Rangers v Antwerp: What has been said?

Steven Gerrard knows Rangers are within touching distance of success at home and abroad but insists there will be no letting up until they have got it firmly in their grasp.

He said: “It’s not about me is the truth. It’s about the supporters, the club, the players. I totally respect the position I’m sitting in right now.

“We’re on the verge of turning Europe into a successful season again by matching last season’s efforts of reaching the last 16. But we’ve still got a big job to do.

“If we can do that it will be a real positive in terms of our journey. That will give us the determination to go one step further than last year from a European point of view.

“We’re obviously on the verge in terms of the league campaign, which I’m extremely proud of.

“But my attitude and focus won’t change until we go get it done. There’s still work to do. There’s still hurdles to get over and tough games on the horizon.

“But we’re extremely determined to take the opportunities that we’ve got here right now.

“And that opportunity is to make Europe a success and to do the same in the league.

“It’s a fantastic position to be in but we’ve got to go grab it now and really capitalise on the position we’re in.”
