Manchester United fans could be waiting for some time to see their new striker Rasmus Hojlund.

The Red Devils have confirmed Hojlund, signed for £72million from Atalanta, will be unavailable for the club’s opening two games against Wolves and Tottenham this season.

The striker was thought to have a minor back problem, but it appears things aren’t as they seem.

There are reports that suggest Hojlund’s injury is a lot more serious than first indicated by the club.

When will Hojlund return?

United initially said that Hojlund had picked up a minor issue that would see him miss a couple of weeks.

Even Erik ten Hag stated in a recent interview that Hojlund was unlikely to start against Wolves but didn’t indicate there was a major problem.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “It’s difficult to say how that process will go.

“But I think he’s making good progress, at this moment. We have to see day by day how the progress will go. Then we have to follow up.

“Of course, when he’s available, and he’s here, so you have the option to play, but we don’t expect him in that short notice to be 100 per cent fit.

“So we have to wait some time more. We need all positions doubled because of the number of games.”

However, the Daily Mail claim that the Dane’s injury is much worse than initially feared.

They state that during the player’s medical, he went for an MRI scan and they picked up a potential stress point in his back.

If left, these can become stress fractures and the only option is to rest.

The reports also asked for some professional medical advice on Hojlund’s problem.

And they suggested that Hojlund wouldn’t be able to play two games-a-week for an extended period of time due to the risk of a fracture.

So Hojlund is set to be out for an indefinite spell, and even when he returns, he might not feature that much.
