Not all heroes wear capes… As was the case when Rio Ferdinand he helped stop Cristiano Ronaldo from moving to Manchester City.

It’s widely known that ex-Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson called up his former star to persuade him not to sign for the Red Devils’ rivals.

Now, it’s been revealed he wasn’t the only one that rang the footballing icon up to convince him not to ruin his legacy with the red side of Manchester.

His former teammate Ferdinand did, too.

According to new information revealed in the book ‘Messi vs Ronaldo’, Ferdinand called his Ronaldo up at 3am in the morning, asking him not to join Pep Guardiola’s side.

The footballer turned pundit seemed to have a big impact on Ronaldo.

Although that isn’t too surprising given they played alongside each other for six years at Old Trafford before the latter’s move to Real Madrid.

After the deal with Man City looked to be off and the Red Devils stepped into pole position, the legendary defender posted a rather cryptic tweet.

The pundit simply uploaded a photo of him smiling with sunglasses on with a framed photo of a signed Man United picture on the wall in the background, along with the caption ‘………….’.

And sure enough, just before the summer transfer window shut, Ronaldo made his return to Man United, signing on a two-year deal – snubbing Man City.
