Saul Niguez is hoping he can elevate his game to a new level as he vows to go out of his ‘comfort zone’ at his new club Chelsea.

The 26-year-old sealed a switch to Stamford Bridge just before the transfer deadline last week and the Blues have the option to make the deal permanent for £30million at the end of the season.

Saul may well make his debut for Chelsea this weekend

Saul is expected to make his debut for the club against Aston Villa this weekend – either as a starter or off the bench – and he is hoping he will make an immediate impact as he embarks on a new chapter in his career.

“The three midfielders who are playing are at a high level. It will not be easy to play, but if I put my mind to it and fight it, I can get it,” Saul told Spanish internet celebrity Ibai Llanos in a conversation on Twitch.

Chelsea has promised me to train in my position [midfield], but to play we will see. To return to certain roles that I do not play in now – that is the most important reason for my decision.

“This transfer is a step out of my comfort zone for me. I believe that you will see a new Saul in a new [better] place.”

Marcos Alonso, a compatriot of Saul’s, has backed his new teammate to settle in quickly at Stamford Bridge following his late move.

He said: “I know Saul from the national team, and also we shared a manager from when we were in the Real Madrid academy.

“He’s a great player. His conditions are going to be good for the Premier League. He is strong physically, he is very good in the air, and those are things you need when you move to this league.

“He is ready to kick off and hopefully we can take advantage of his qualities and he will be of great help to the team, because it’s going to be a long year, with a lot of competitions.”
