Everton boss Sean Dyche has admitted he has risked the wrath of his mother after ditching his suit on the touchline.

Dyche did admit there was some reasoning behind his choice to ditch the formal attire – even if it has annoyed his mum.

“It is more the players that have worked with me, they have never seen me in a tracksuit for a game,” he said ahead of Everton‘s match against Luton Town on Friday night.

“There was a bigger picture to it, a much deeper scenario. We looked at how we were coaching, planning and all the rest of it.

“And that was a small thing, we thought ‘well, I want change from us so that will be a change for me’.

“My daughter is still getting her head around it. My mum wasn’t too happy, she’s like, ‘I prefer you in a suit, son’.

“Well, for now, it keeps winning so unfortunately the tracksuit is going to stay for the moment!”

Everton secured their Premier League survival with a 1-0 win over Brentford last week in a chaotic season that has seen them deducted points on two separate occasions.

And with their takeover bid from 777 Partners also in disarray, Dyche has performed admirably to steady the ship on the pitch.

Whether that is partly down to a wardrobe change on the touchline from Dyche, who knows, but the results speak for themselves.

The Toffees have won three in a row, including a 2-0 victory over Merseyside rivals Liverpool, since the 52-year-old left his shirt and tie at home, donning a tracksuit instead, keeping three clean sheets in the process.

The last time Dyche wore a suit on the touchline was against Chelsea where they were thrashed 6-0 at Stamford Bridge, prompting a change in fashion – and a change in fortunes.

Their assured safety in the Premier League means their travels to Kenilworth Road on Friday night will see a huge weight lifted from their shoulders in what could have been a relegation six-pointer.

Luton are still facing an uncertain future sitting 18th in the Premier League, though they are a point behind Nottingham Forest with three games to go.

Everton, meanwhile, also face Sheffield United, who have already been relegated, before their final match of the season against table-toppers Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta knows any further dropped points would open the door to Manchester City, who are a point behind and have a game in hand.
