Mauricio Pochettino has described Chelsea’s penalty row as ‘unacceptable’.
The Blues earned an emphatic 6-0 victory over Everton in a match that will go down as their biggest win of the campaign so far.
However that scoreline has been overshadowed by a row in the build-up to Cole Palmer’s penalty kick in the second half.
Already 4-0 up at the time, Palmer had hold of the ball as he looked to score his fourth of the match, before Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson tried to snatch the ball away from him.
Jackson in particular seemed furious at not being allowed to take the kick with captain Conor Gallagher being forced to intervene as Palmer pushed the striker away.
Thankfully for Palmer, the 21-year-old was able to slot home with ease to avoid any additional drama to the situation.
While very happy with the result, Pochettino cut a frustrated figure post-match and said that it was down to his disappointment around the penalty incident.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Pochettino said: “I’m so upset, very disappointed.
“We were talking in the dressing room now after the game.
“It’s so disappointing, I cannot accept this type of behaviour because we know that the penalty taker is Palmer, the players know and we cannot accept these type of things.
“I told them that this was the last time I want to see this type of behaviour on the pitch because after that kind of performance we cannot show a different way to think about the team.
“The penalty taker is Palmer. It’s Palmer who needs to decide. If he wants to give the penalty to someone else, it’s up to him.
“The image that we gave I think is important to fix and I think they realise now. I can promise that it’s not going to happen again.”
Palmer was asked about the incident on Sky Sports and said: “Other players wanted to take it which is understandable.
“The game was 4-0, but I am the penalty taker and I wanted to take it and so I took it.
“I think we’re just showing that everybody wants to take responsibility. Maybe the argument was a bit over the top, but everyone wants to win and help.
“It’s nothing major, we were laughing and joking about but the gaffer has spoken to us about it now.”
