Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling has just one year left on his contract at the Etihad, and Chelsea believe they can lure him away.

And the Blues are that keen on signing the England international that Thomas Tuchel has reportedly reached out to his team as the Londoners look to launch their first bid for him.

Sterling has garnered interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.

But in the Premier League, it’s Chelsea that have the 27-year-old on their wish list.

Now, The Telegraph are reporting that Blues boss Tuchel has reached out to Sterling’s representatives as they prepare to launch their first bid.

The west London club are expected to submit an offer between £50million and £60m for the winger who contributed 13 goals to City‘s Premier League winning campaign last season.

After signing from Liverpool in 2015, Sterling has been City’s most used played under Pep Guardiola and has broken into the club’s top 10 highest scorers.

Last season, though, saw Sterling play less than two thirds of the minutes he could have in the Premier League, dropping down the Spaniard’s pecking order.

It speaks volumes that he’s been allowed to enter the final 12 months of his contract with no rumours of an extension since February.

And it was clear back in the early stages of the last season that he was weighing up a move, with him in search of consistent game time ahead of the World Cup this winter.

“If there was the option to go somewhere else for more game time I would be open to it,” Sterling told FT Business of Sport US summit in October 2021.

But whilst he may be falling out favour at City, for Chelsea, Sterling could be the perfect fit.

Given he’s exceeded all of the Blues’ top scorers’ goal tallies in the last five seasons in the Premier League and he’s recorded a huge 109 Premier League goals across his career, he’s the sort of pedigree Tuchel’s side need if they’re to rebuild their attack.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are still waiting on striker Romelu Lukaku’s loan move to Inter Milan to go through, after his £97.5m transfer last summer failed to live up to expectations.

New Blues chairman Todd Boehly has promised Tuchel six new signings this summer, and the German seems determined to make sure Sterling is one.
