Tottenham look to have salvaged their deal for Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro after agreeing a £40million fee, talkSPORT understands.

The move was in doubt after Sporting pulled the plug on Sunday but talks resumed after Porro skipped training on Monday.

Porro has already agreed personal terms and is set to undergo a medical on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old attacking defender has been Antonio Conte’s No.1 target for the January transfer window, and he is now set to get his man before the close of play.

Spurs have already sealed a deal for Dutch forward Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal, with the former Bournemouth man scoring on his debut against Preston in the FA Cup.

Wing-back was an area of need for Conte, though, with Porro one of Europe’s top talents in the specialist position, having starred in the Primeira Liga, Champions League, and for Spain.

With Porro on his way, Spurs can now manage their options on the right side, which will see summer signing Djed Spence join French outfit Rennes on loan for the remainder of the season.

The England under-21 was signed for £20m from Middlesbrough, but failed to impress Conte despite being a stand-out performer on loan at Nottingham Forest last season.
