Tottenham take on Liverpool in north London tonight in a huge Premier League clash

It could leave Jose Mourinho in a tight spot against Liverpool as Ben Davies and Matt Doherty are also doubts.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is ready to return having missed the past two games with a muscle strain.

Joel Matip will be assessed ahead of tonight’s game but should be fit to start.

Naby Keita and Diogo Jota are not ready to return yet but are edging closer to full fitness.

Tottenham vs Liverpool: What has been said?

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho: “For me, Liverpool is an amazing team and they can still win the Premier League.

“The team is the same or better. The coach is the same or better. Because as a coach, it’s a job where experience helps you to be better. Because, for me, a coach with one more year is better than previously.

“They got some very good players. They lost a fundamental player, they lost a fundamental player, we can say what we want, we can try to hide things, but some players are special and they are impossible to replace so even sometimes the defensive process has a relation with losing an attacking player.

“The attacking process also is related to a defensive player that you have lost. It can look like a contradiction but is not a contradiction. But it is not a contradiction.

“A team very stable defensively is a team with much better conditions to attack and vice versa. They lost (Virgil) Van Dijk. It’s very, very important for them.

“If they had one or two results, not the best results, they didn’t score as many goals as normal then it’s normal they went into a little phase of a little bit of less confidence, a little bit of less results but, for me, they are the same. For me, nothing changes in the way I look to Liverpool.”

Tottenham vs Liverpool: Match stats and facts

  • Tottenham have lost their last five league matches against Liverpool – they have never lost six in a row against the Reds.
  • Liverpool are looking to win three consecutive away league matches against Spurs for the very first time, winning 2-1 in 2018/19 and 1-0 in 2019/20.
  • This is the first time Tottenham and Liverpool have ever met on a Thursday in the top-flight. Liverpool have beaten Spurs on each of the other six days of the week, and they could become the third team to beat them on all seven in top-flight history after Everton and West Ham.
  • Following their 2-0 win against Man City last season, Tottenham are looking to win consecutive home games against reigning Premier League champions for the first time since beating Manchester United in both 1999-00 and 2000-01.

He has only suffered back-to-back home league defeats against an opponent once, losing to Man City in 2016/17 and 2017/18 with Manchester United.
  • Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino has scored in four of his last five Premier League matches against Spurs, scoring the winning goal in three of those four games, including in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
