Craig Bellamy is at the centre of a tug-of-war between Burnley and Bayern Munich-bound Vincent Kompany.
Burnley boss Kompany is in advanced talks with the German giants over becoming their new head coach.
Kompany has agreed personal terms over his move to Bavaria with just the finer details to be ironed out.
One of those issues is the backroom team that the Man City legend will take with him – with Bellamy being a crucial piece of the jigsaw.
The former Newcastle, Liverpool and Man City forward has been Kompany’s no.2 at Turf Moor since he was appointed two years ago and is wanted by Kompany to fulfil the same role in the Bundesliga.
However Bellamy is reportedly being considered as Kompany’s replacement by Burnley, a move that would see him step up to become a head coach for the first time.
Alongside Kompany’s stellar career as a player in which he captained Man City to four Premier League titles and six domestic cup wins, the former defender has attracted attention since moving into management.
Kompany helped Burnley to automatic promotion from the Championship in his first campaign, before suffering relegation from the Premier League after picking up just 24 points to finish 19th.
While the season didn’t end in the way that the Clarets would have hoped, Kompany did attract praise for his possession-based, attack-minded approach to play – something that would undoubtedly go down well in Munich.
Bayern are looking for a head coach following the departure of Thomas Tuchel, with the club finishing third in the Bundesliga.
They were keen to appoint Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, who guided the club to the Bundesliga title and made history by becoming the first manager to go unbeaten in the German top-flight all season.
However, Alonso rejected their advances decided to stay at Leverkusen for another season.
Bayern were also linked with a move for Mauricio Pochettino following his sudden Chelsea departure, along with Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.
