Mohamed Salah’s influence on his Liverpool teammates knows no bounds – just ask Alexis Mac Allister.

The Egyptian is undoubtedly the club’s talisman on the pitch but it appears that Salah’s off-field sway is greeted with a little more respect than most.

Even if you’re a World Cup winner and pals with Lionel Messi, taking advice from the Liverpool forward is high up on the priority list.

Salah offered some guidance to Mac Allister on the midfielder’s training attire during the harsh winter months on Merseyside, and the Argentine was only too happy to follow the Egyptian’s advice.

Speaking to Liverpool’s YouTube channel, Mac Allister was spotted training in shorts during a spell of bitter Merseyside weather, while others were wearing long bottoms to keep warm in the wet and wind.

When questioned on his choice to don a pair of shorts, Mac Allister said: “When I was at Brighton I used to wear trousers.

“Then I came here and I remember against Sheffield [United] we went out to do a warm up and I was wearing a hat and trousers and Mo Salah said to me, ‘What are you doing, why are you wearing that?’

“So since that day, I’ve never worn trousers. It’s only because of Mo.”

Mac Allister and Salah became teammates last summer after the Argentine made a £35million switch to Anfield as part of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield reconstruction.

And the 25-year-old hasn’t disappointed, helping the Reds mount a credible title challenge while featuring in last month’s Carabao Cup final success over Chelsea.

The midfielder has netted five times in 34 games across all competitions and more recently has formed a solid central partnership with Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo.

Mac Allister has seamlessly fitted into the Reds’ midfield since his arrival and spoke recently about his intention of staying at the club in the long term.

“It is crazy because since the first day here I really felt a connection that I have not felt at any other club,” he told The Independent.

“Hopefully I will spend many years here.”
