Uruguay have an incredible history on the world stage of football and have often punch above their weight.

Despite having a total population roughly a third that of London alone, Uruguay have upset the odds to claim a number major trophies down the years.

They will forever hold the illustrious honour of being crowned the first winners of the FIFA World Cup, having claim glory in the inaugural tournament in 1930.

‘La Celeste’ beat Argentina 4-2 in front of over 68,000 people in Montevideo to secure their place in history.

The small South American nation have since plenty more silverware including 15 Copa America titles.

And their famous Sky Blue kit reflects their success but does sometimes cause a little confusion.

From May 30 of this year, the Uruguayan Football Association confirmed that they are permitted to continue wearing four stars on their football crest.

The stars recognized the world titles won by Uruguay in 1924, 1928, 1930 and 1950.

Before the first World Cup, the world’s most prestigious competition was the Olympics Games.

Uruguay were Olympic gold medallists in 1924 and 1928 and then claimed World Cup glory in 1930 and 1950.

Uruguay have a fine squad assembled for the 2022 World Cup and will come up against Portugal, Ghana and South Korea in Group H.
